accommodations consultation
Many individuals would greatly benefit from accommodations at their college/university or workplace. Whether it be to support a mental health diagnosis or due to neurodivergence, you deserve the reasonable accommodations protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. However, it can be daunting and complicated to seek and advocate for accommodations even when there would be a benefit.
This is where I aim to ease the process. As a clinical psychologist, I am trained in the assessment and diagnosing of disorders within the DSM-5-TR. Furthermore, I have years of experience writing reports and documentation letters to advocate for reasonable accommodations in both workplace and higher education settings. Not only can I help with the paperwork and necessary documentation, but I can even attend meetings or calls to advocate for said accommodations.
what’s the process?
-
To begin the process we will have a brief 20-30 minute video or phone consult. This is where I explain the process and answer any questions you may have. It is also where I begin to gather the basic info on where you are seeking accommodations (ex. work/college/etc.) as well and discuss any diagnoses you have received in the past. My goal is to work together to make sure you get the supports you need!
-
This phase consists of 2-4 sessions where the goal is for me to conduct a diagnostic assessment and work collaboratively with you to compile a list of beneficial accommodations. If you have previously received a diagnosis from a mental health provider (or psychiatrist) that can help direct this time together.
-
Sometimes a college/university or workplace may have necessary forms they require in order to grant reasonable accommodations. If that is the case, I will complete the required paperwork. If there is no specific form I can assist with other forms of documentation that you can present to work/school when requesting accommodations.
-
Together we can rehearse scripts on what to say to others when asking for accommodations and knowing what your legal rights are.
If your college/university or workplace provide any pushback on your requested accommodations this is where I help support. I can join you on phone or video calls, or in email, where I advocate for you using my background and credentials as a licensed clinical psychologist.
-
Many institutions require new documentation after a set time period (annually, bi-annually, or every 5 years, etc.). If that is the case, we can re-evaluate your current needs and update required documentation.
